So, for that one marketer, and for those of you who care, here goes nothing.
We’re an insurance provider—one that’s named after a fruit.
Pineapple’s origin story? It started with a competition; in 2016, Marnus van Heerden, Ndabenhle Junior Ngulube, and Matthew Elan Smith entered an innovation competition run by Hannover-Re. They lost.
However, one big question still remained… Why is insurance still so outdated, expensive, frustrating and BORING?
So, they built something better—insurance that’s easy, accessible, and (dare we say) enjoyable. And after a chance encounter with fellow collaborator and co-founder Sizwe Ndlovu in a Gautrain cart, of all places, Pineapple was truly formed.
We’re not perfect, but as Google’s top-rated car insurance provider*, we think we’re doing okay.
Now, to answer the most important question. Why Pineapple? Not as an insurance provider, but a name – seriously, who signed off on that?
“A pineapple is made up of many berries, similarly like insurance, many people come together to make the collective”, or something like that.
