It’s Trick Or Treat Season And Here’s Our Pick Of What To Watch
This October trick and treat yourself to some of the most spook-tacular films 💀 — according to us at least. From cult classics (maybe there is one that’s more cult than classic) to noughties nightmares 😨 we’re sure there’s something on this list for everyone. Hmmm maybe that’s witchful thinking 🧙♀️.
Buckle up and Happy Hallo-scream…
The Shining (1980)
It’s been over 40 years since Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining was released and we can’t think of another horror film filled with so many iconic moments. The creepy twin girls 👯♀️, the elevator doors letting out a tidal wave of blood 🩸, Room 237 🗝️, and of course… “Heeere’s Johnny!” 🪓. The Shining centers around the life of Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic who accepts a position as the off-season caretaker of the isolated, historic Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies, with his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and young son Danny (Danny Llyod) 👦🏻. Danny is gifted with “the shining”, psychic abilities that enable him to see into the hotel’s horrific history… There’s a reason The Shining is at the top of our list 🥃🍿. #WendyImHome

Get Out (2017)
Jordan Peele’s directorial debut Get Out is a horror we can’t get enough of… Worried about meeting your new girls’ parents 👩❤️👨? This film will bring your worst fears to life 👀! With the classic line “Don’t go to a white girl’s parents’ house 🏡!” — a warning from the loveable transport security administration officer Rod (Lil Rel Howery) to his friend Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) rings too true in this unparalleled horror 🏃🏿♂️. While preparing to “meet the parents” Chris asks his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) “Do they know I’m black?”… Chris you have NO idea what you’re getting into 😭. The rural family home, the man running (if you know you know), the father saying he’d have voted for Obama a third time if he could… this film is a biting social critique on modern-day America 🇺🇸. A must-watch. #YouKnowICantGiveYouTheKeysRightBabe 🗝️🔒

Train To Busan (2016)
Everyone is talking about Squid Game but we have another South Korean must-watch… Train To Busan 🚉! This action-packed 🎬, zombie-shuffling 🧟, speeding bullet train 🚅 horror centers around Seok-woo (Gong Yoo — you may recognise him as the con artist who fools desperate people in need of money to bet on themselves in Squid Game 🦑). He’s a divorced workaholic who still lives with his mum and spends hardly any time with his daughter Soo-an (Kim Su-an), sound familiar? Hmmm yeah, we thought so too. To make up for a rather awkward gifting 🎁 moment with his daughter he agrees to take her to see her mum’s home in Busan. It’s just an hour train ride from Seoul 🇰🇷, what could go wrong? Well, we’ll give you a hint, the undead 🪦… #DeadbeatDad

Hereditary (2018)
Ari Aster’s breakthrough feature film directorial debut Hereditary had us on the edge of our seats 🪑, please keep all hands, feet, arms, legs, and heads 🤯 inside the ride at all times (this may make you smile after watching the film). Annie Graham’s (Toni Collette) blood-curdling screeches will have you shaking as will her son Peter’s (Alex Wolff) car ride 🚙 with his sister Charlie (Milly Shapiro). This movie is extreme and head trauma (an Ari Aster obsession) is in no short supply. Tongue clicks, deeply troubled women 👭, and unexpected, culty twists and turns make this film deeply nightmarish 🐦🕯️🩸. #SheIsntGone

The Skin I Live In
La piel que habito) (2011)
This Spanish thriller isn’t for the faint of heart 🤕. If we’re being honest we needed to pause this one, walk away and regain some composure. The twists and turns are UNREAL — but we don’t want to give too much away… Ever since his wife was burned 🔥 in a car crash, Dr. Robert Ledgard, played by Antonio Banderas, a skilled plastic surgeon 💉, has been interested in creating a new skin with which he could have used to save her… Now all he needs is a human guinea pig to test it out on🔪🩸👨⚕️. #ScarySurgeon #DoctorOhNo
